Welcome / Help

Welcome to the MrLandlord.com Videos. We want your video watching and sharing experience to be a great one, and will help in any way we can to make that happen.

Should you need help with uploading or sharing videos, or any other segment of this site, please post your questions in the MrLandlord.com Q&A. Doing so will help future visitors if they have the same problem, and you will get help from several folks instead of waiting for a single response.

You can Click Here for an informative video covering how to create and upload a video to the site.

Below are answers to some Frequently Asked Questions:

Do I need to Log-In or Sign Up?

NO! Only when you want to upload a video. To view available videos all you need to do is click on them!

There is an option to "sign-up", but the only reason to do so is to upload and share videos. To view the videos, you need simply click on them.

Do the videos work with dial-up?
Yes, absolutely! However, even though we have the resolution on the videos turned down to a level that compresses the videos into as small a file size as possible, while maintaining detail, users on dial-up connections won't have a great experience without a little help.

If you are on dial-up, click on the video that you wish to view. Once the video starts to buffer and you see some action / hear some sound, click on the PAUSE button on the video player. This will pause the playback of the video. However, the video will continue to download in the background. You will see the blue status bar, in the player continue to move to the right, indicating that the video is still downloading.

Once the blue bar reaches the far right, click on the PLAY button, and you will enjoy full motion video and sound.

What may affect whether the videos run smoothly (without pausing or stopping) while watching them?

You want to make sure other computer programs or applications are closed. If you have a not so powerful PC and have a bunch of applications open besides the video page, it can have a negative affect on viewing the videos. Also, if your connection to the internet is slow, that will without a doubt affect viewing videos. For example, last night I played a few games on my computer which cut down my bandwidth on my wireless connection and watched the videos on a low end PC (500 Mhz, <200 mb ram). The videos stumbled and the audio got out of sync with the video. Sometimes the video simply locked up. The only aplication open was IE. The problem was not the video, but my low end PC. Using my "bigger" PC's (dual core and a quad core with tons of memory) and without restricting my bandwidth on my local network, none of the videos locked up and worked perfectly.

When producing and uploading a video to appear on our video page, do we or should we be concerned about the file types? How about MOV or MPEG, because my camera defaults to MOV I believe. Will the upload process "convert" to the proper file type or is it something to be concerned about?

The ONLY file types that the system won't accept are .flv, and .rm.. All other file types are accepted and converted automatically by the software that runs the video pages. The main thing you want to be concerned about is the file size of your video. It can't be larger than 100 mb. I know that many folks have no clue what this means, but to put it in simple terms 100 mbs is about 10 minutes of video under standard recording parameters (not high resolution).

What type of editing guidelines do these files need? Offensive language, nudity......is/is not acceptable?

Guidelines should be "G" rated.

Personal Note from Jeffrey Taylor, Founder of MrLandlord.com,

I want to personally encourage all interested website visitors to submit a video to the growing collection that you think could be helpful to others, (perhaps in an area that you have a particular expertise).

You are also invited to submit a video that you simply would like to share with others that captures one of your landlording experiences or shows off one of your rental homes or apartments.

We want this collection of videos to be something that many of our website visitors contribute to and share in.
